21 August 07 - 15:09Pirate's Log - Aug 4th (the Battle)

Well Mateys, with the crew chosen it was time we got after 'ol Davey Jones to free our Big Momma. So we searched out the clues and located the infamous Davey Jones's Locker! (Actually a big treasure chest) I had previously battled 'ol DJ and come away with his keys, which he kept close to his heart, (I'd tell why, but that's another pirate legend for another day) but he also cursed them and said only a lady of pure Mardi Gras spirit could bewitch one of the keys into opening the chest. The sea scum wouldn't tells me which key, so I had no choice but to resort to unscrupulous methods to try and save me Big Momma. So, taking DJ at his word, I figured to increase my chances my having the ladies of the krewe draw a key each and give it try on the lock of the chest once discovered. A month prior, I had these brave lady volunteers select a key by chance and asked them to try their  best to enchant the key they chose so it would be ready for the ... (more)

06 August 07 - 14:14Pirate's Log - Aug 4th

Well lads, the day had arrived and the time for talking was over. I had me plan and I was putting it into action! To get the right crew for the job I devised a series of "pirate games" that would test yer smarts and yer skills in order to prove yer pirating prowess. The first was a game of skill called "Pirate Darts", in which ye had to accurately target certain parts of an opposinng captain, (I got his image from a fortune teller that assurred me whatever body part was hit with a dart, he'd feel the same!) and I know that's a bit cruel, but he was owed. The game was expertly administered by long time accomplice Pirate Paul Rodgers (and a new hire)....little did I know he was to earn a much different pirate name by night's end.

The second game of skill was a "Pirate Duck Race", where ye picked a suitable (rubber) duck, placed 'em in the track and at the start signal, blew your duck to the opposing side! Now I'll say ... (more)

06 August 07 - 13:16Pirate's Log - Aug 3rd

As any pirate knows, before you put to sea (or have a party) ye has to prepare by gathering a crew and supplies. A ship is important too, but if ye don't have one, ye just commandeer one! (And dat was me plan.) The trick was raising a crew, so I had to resort to some low down tricks to get it done. I made a document to advertise a party and used some poetic license to stir interest amoungest the fine upstanding citizens of the Z Krewe. Those most caught up in the excitment of the pirate's way of life, signed on eagerly to setup the party and further attract more potential crewmen. Arrrgh!  Beware though, unless ye can deliver on the promise of grog and treasure, you might finds yerself walking the plank by the hands of yer own crew! But that wasn't to be for me, 'cause I had a good core crew that made the party happen and secured the necessary grog and supplies to get the lot of 'em stuffed with grub and filled ... (more)

20 July 07 - 11:28The Beginning - Tall Tales of Pirate Big Daddy 14

Hello to all Ye Landlubbers!

This be my first blog, so bear with me as I explore these vast uncharted waters. If Ye are not awares, ZKrewe is a Galveston Mardi Gras krewe that is famous for throwing "Z" best parties and "Z" best beads at Mardi Gras! Pirate's honor, we really do... and as an annual part of our tradition, the party captains known as Big Momma and Big Daddy lead these audacious Zanies in the revelry that ensues. Our theme this year is Pirates! Arrrgh!

So each Spring sailing season, Big Daddy is voted in by the previous Big Daddies in true Pirate democratic fashion. This new Big Daddy selects from the eligible Ladies of the krewe a Big Momma of his liking in Zecret, again in true Pirate fashion. The process is not easy as there are many qualified and beautiful women, all of which try to influence the poor soul's decision by applying their ... (more)
